New Chief Executive appointed at country’s
largest Insurance Broker
Hugh Governey announces his retirement - to be replaced
by Jim O’Mahoney
Wednesday, 13th July, 2005. Coyle Hamilton Willis
– Ireland’s leading insurance and re-insurance
broker, and pensions, actuarial and risk management
consultancy – has announced that Jim O’Mahoney
is to replace Hugh Governey as Chief Executive of the
company with effect from the 1st August.
The announcement was made by Joe Plumeri, Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer of Willis plc. Willis, the
world’s third largest insurance broker, who acquired
a majority shareholding in what was then Coyle Hamilton
in October of last year.
The appointment follows the announced retirement of
Hugh Governey, who has been Chief Executive since 2000.
Mr. Governey will retire as Chief Executive on the 31st
July, 2005, after 40 years of service with the Group.
He will remain as a Director of the company .
Speaking today, Mr. Plumeri paid tribute to the contribution
made by Mr. Governey; “Hugh has made an immense
contribution to the company during his years as Chief
Executive. In particular he will be remembered for leading
Coyle Hamilton to its position as the premier insurance
broker in the Irish market, for successfully overseeing
the deal to create Coyle Hamilton Willis and for integrating
the businesses of Coyle Hamilton and Willis Ireland.
He leaves the company in an exceptionally strong position
and with its reputation and strength enhanced. We wish
him and his wife Christine every happiness in his retirement.”
Mr. Plumeri said that Hugh’s successor Jim O’Mahoney
was ideally placed to lead the company to the next phase
of its development; “Jim is one of the outstanding
leaders in the broking business in Ireland. In his role
as Managing Director of the key Corporate Division,
Jim has played a critical role in the company’s
overall success and he has been intimately involved
in the integration of the Coyle Hamilton and Willis
Ireland businesses over the past year. The Coyle Hamilton
Willis business has enjoyed great success since its
creation and we look forward to continued success under
Jim’s stewardship in the months and years ahead.”
Jim O’Mahoney has been Managing Director of the
Corporate Broking Division of Coyle Hamilton Willis
since 1999 and has been with the Company since 1985.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute
and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner.
The appointment is subject to approval by the Financial
Regulator.
